Merry late christmas and happy almost new year!

Holy crap, it's been a month and a half since my last post! That would explain why I have all these tabs sitting open just waiting to be recced.

So, December was a stupidly busy month, and half the fics for [ profile] sga_santa are epic monstrosities! I'm also a week behind on my flist.

On to many linkies: )

For all cat people, this is just too funny:

I'll have some [ profile] sga_santa recs soon, but I think I want to wait for the reveal. This is mostly because I'm lazy and don't want to have to go back and edit for author names later. And I think you all have enough to be going on with above :D

Oh, also: I got a Christmas card from [personal profile] paraka on christmas eve. Thank you!

drip drip drip

I looked up from my computer and, noticing the time, decided to nip out to the shop to pick up the jobs paper. And maybe some chocolate. I'm reaching for my shoes when there's a rumble of thunder and the heavens open. I swear the weather is out to get me, or at least to trap me in the house. Last week I got caught in two thunderstorms on the same day and slipped and fell in the Bigg Market. The giant bruise on my knee is now turning an interesting yellow colour.

I have a couple of things to share. First up we have Heart Arrhythmia by [info -] lavvyan. I've been very carefully bookmarking links to Season 5 fics without reading them, given that I won't have S5 in my hands for another month yet, so I'm not sure why I decided to read this one. It's set after The Shrine and I'm very, very glad I did read it. It's just... right.

Second thing is courtesy of Cute Overload: Cats 'exploit' humans by purring. It's not really news, if you're a cat owner; just an explanation.

The rain appears to have stopped. Time to fetch the Evening Chronicle.

Couple o' recs

I have three SGA fics and one Star Trek Reboot fic for your delectation.

First up, The Three Hunters by [info]mirabile_dictu. This story comes with a kleenex warning but is so totally worth it in the end.

Second is another untitled BJ Friday fic by [info] - livejournal.comhestia_lacey. How does she get so much emotion into one scene? I am in awe!

Third is a cute fic by Punk, entitled Caught. This ends with a warm and fuzzy feeling, without being saccharine. Is nice :)

The Star Trek one is Kirk/McCoy, You Give Me Fever by [info] - personalladycat and [info] - personalgreen. Kirk get personal treatment from his doctor...

Has fandom collectively made up its mind on an acronym or abbreviation for the Reboot yet?

Hot rec

Like, really hot! Apparently, [info] - livejournal.comhestia_lacey was inspired by Blow Job Friday. Oh, was she ever inspired! Emotion-filled scalding-hot sex = perfect! (AU McShep)

Wifi is love

I got home from London last night; my train ran about an hour later than scheduled. And the onboard wifi was less than effective. I think there was about 2 minutes where the router was connected to the outside world. Fortunately, I had expected this and had each page of Inukshuk by Murron open in tabs. 84,000 words kept me occupied and I liked the ending very much. This tale is very... very John and Rodney. Them being themselves, doing what they do, while it all goes to hell around them.

So, I am happy to be home with my wifi and my own mattress and Paz, who I have missed.

My last day in London... )

It was a good trip. I think I should make the effort to visit my London friends more often.

It's all caught up to me now and I'm very tired. The electricians and the plumber have been in and I now have spotlights in my bathroom and the bath is fitted! I think I'm going to head to Tescos to buy some bubbles...

Hello World!

It appears that it's been some time since I made a meaningful post of any sort (or even a meaningless one, at that). So, here be list:

  • Got made redundant at the beginning of the month. They paid me quite well to go away, and it turned out to be convenient because...
  • I have a house full of builders for the next month and have spent the last 2 weeks packing up and shrink-wrapping my life to protect it from dust.
  • I have a big hole where the partition between the kitchen and the dining room used to be.
  • I also have a small hole in the brickwork leading to the attached outhouse. While this will become our new utility room and part of the indoors, it is currently still part of the outdoors and is letting in the equinox winds. Brrrrrr!
  • I signed on for the first time this afternoon. I'm finding the whole job centre experience a little bewildering - it's not really designed for people like me.
  • I have a job interview on the 3rd, for which I will have to do quite a bit of research first.
  • I will be going to London at Easter, where I will meet up with [info]lilithilien, which will be way cool :D
  • If I get the job (and find out before going to London) I'm going to spend a lot of my redundancy money in Long Tall Sally. There may also be a new ipod. If I get the job.
In fandom, I am being slowly sucked into Merlin/Arther fics (and I need a few icons) but I am still totally hooked on the McShep. Speaking of which, you should read Cycle by Lavvyan. And then go here. It is truly awesome that a little AU fanfic can spawn its own sub-fandom *hugs fandom*.

I shall make an attempt to post in a more regular fashion. But I promise nothing :D

SGA rec

I've been off work with evil head-cold of evilness since Thursday. This has conveniently given me time to read through a series of mad epic!fics. I present to you Xanthe's stories General & Dr Sheppard, Coming Home and Hiding in Plain Sight, the last of which is a crossover with NCIS.

I strongly recommend you read the author's notes first; the concept for this AU is cracked (and won't be to everyone's taste) but the stories are still a lot of fun. They follow the romance formula of denial, angst, danger and happy-ever-after which makes them perfect comfort-fic for a cold winter or sick-leave.

I should also warn you that the third fic is seriously colouring my view of NCIS... but kind in a good way ;)

Let me know if you like these stories, and don't forget to leave comments for [info]xanthestories.

Comfort fic

[info]pir8fancier asked for Crap Day Antidotes. I present...

Catch 19 by chelle. It's SGA, McShep, and fluff. NC-17 fluff. If you've had a bad day, really, this is what you need.

Also, I managed to miss out on sensibly-priced permanent accounts here. I was sure they were staying on offer til the end of May... Oh well, this one is already permanent. I'll just have to be minimalist with my RL account. *le sigh*

Epic SGA rec

I spent Monday and Tuesday off sick, so it was convenient that I'd discovered In the City of Seven Walls by Auburn the day before, via Necromancy for the Living, an alternative PoV for the story written by Icarus.

In the City of Seven Walls, with the additional PoV stories, comes to about 190,000 words of the most beautiful, heart-wrenching, powerful, vivid storytelling I've read in a long time. This story made me feel an amazing range of emotions, including hope and despair. I've spent most of the last two days thinking about it.

It's a slavery fic, and bits of it really ain't pretty, so you have been warned. But it is soooooo worth it. I think I'll be reading it again this weekend.

SGA McShep recs

Many thanks to [info]seleneheart for reccing Written By The Victors by written by Speranza. It's very long, and it takes a little while to get used to the style, but trust me, it is worth it! Sixteen pages of comments can't be wrong.

On a totally different note, we have The Schedule, which is (a comparatively short) 8000 words of amusing, sweet and very hot smut.

Go forth and read...
