Referendum on Alternative Votes tomorrow

This is mostly applicable to any Brits on my flist, although left-leaning Canadians will also appreciate it after their election result. For everyone else, watch it to meet Reform Cat :)

Brits, get the hell out and vote tomorrow!

Some things I'd like to share

I'm having my first sick day in six months today. Having successfully evaded Paz's cold for the duration of the Easter weekend, I returned to a freezing cold office at work, which gave the bugs the opportunity to catch me. *sniffle* Sudafed and lemsips are my friends today, and I now have time to do a little tab clearance and circle maintenance.

So, Thing the First: [personal profile] auburn recently requested prompts for a timestamp meme. And she wrote this snippet from the end of In the City of Seven Walls which remains my favourite SGA fic ever. I recommend you read the other snippets in the meme while you're there.

Thing the Second was found via [community profile] metafandom and is The Broccoli Test. The degree to which John and Rodney passed this test would depend very much on who was writing them, I suspect. Sometimes they just totally get each other and sometimes they... don't. Let me know if you have a take on this.

Thing the Third is a fic by [personal profile] darkrose which makes my geeky heart happy: We Sang in Tune. My main geeky timesink, Raelynne, is a Fury, which is part-healer, part-nuker. Guess which bit I enjoy more. (I just have to pause for a moment to brag about the fact that I was 3rd Fury on my server to level 90. Thank you for your time.)

Thing the Fourth is my current favourite LoLcat:

cut for those who are not LoLcats fans )

Lastly, a question: I've seen the phrase, "a lack of spoons" around the internets a lot recently. While I understand what it means from context, I have no idea where it came from or why spoons in particular. I think it's a phrase I could apply to myself some days, but I am unwilling to do so without understanding its origins. Any insights, flist?

Merry late christmas and happy almost new year!

Holy crap, it's been a month and a half since my last post! That would explain why I have all these tabs sitting open just waiting to be recced.

So, December was a stupidly busy month, and half the fics for [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa are epic monstrosities! I'm also a week behind on my flist.

On to many linkies: )

For all cat people, this is just too funny:

I'll have some [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa recs soon, but I think I want to wait for the reveal. This is mostly because I'm lazy and don't want to have to go back and edit for author names later. And I think you all have enough to be going on with above :D

Oh, also: I got a Christmas card from [personal profile] paraka on christmas eve. Thank you!

Links in my chain-mail bikini

A couple of things I wanted to share:

My list of open tabs is somewhat more manageable now, although SGA Big Bang is imminent, so that won't last long.

I came so close to having my hands on my RAM upgrade this evening! But all I found was a 'We tried to deliver' note :( Hopefully, they will deliver tomorrow after 10:30, when I will be back from my driving lesson, and not before. It would suck to miss it twice!

drip drip drip

I looked up from my computer and, noticing the time, decided to nip out to the shop to pick up the jobs paper. And maybe some chocolate. I'm reaching for my shoes when there's a rumble of thunder and the heavens open. I swear the weather is out to get me, or at least to trap me in the house. Last week I got caught in two thunderstorms on the same day and slipped and fell in the Bigg Market. The giant bruise on my knee is now turning an interesting yellow colour.

I have a couple of things to share. First up we have Heart Arrhythmia by [info - livejournal.com] lavvyan. I've been very carefully bookmarking links to Season 5 fics without reading them, given that I won't have S5 in my hands for another month yet, so I'm not sure why I decided to read this one. It's set after The Shrine and I'm very, very glad I did read it. It's just... right.

Second thing is courtesy of Cute Overload: Cats 'exploit' humans by purring. It's not really news, if you're a cat owner; just an explanation.

The rain appears to have stopped. Time to fetch the Evening Chronicle.
